Terms of Hire

These terms and conditions ("Terms") apply to all studio hire bookings made through Studio on Brunswick ("we", "us", "Studio on Brunswick"). By completing a booking or enquiry, you ("Hirer") agree to these Terms. These Terms do not limit any rights you may have under Australian Consumer Law.
1. Booking and deposit
All bookings are subject to acceptance by Studio on Brunswick. Submitting a booking request does not guarantee availability or confirmation.
To secure a booking, a 50% deposit of the total hire fee is required at the time of booking. This deposit is collected via Stripe at the time of checkout.
The deposit becomes non-refundable once Studio on Brunswick confirms the booking. It covers administration, calendar hold and preparation time, and compensates the studio for holding the space unavailable to other hirers.
If Studio on Brunswick is unable to confirm a booking, all amounts paid (including the deposit) will be refunded in full.
2. Balance payment
The remaining 50% balance is automatically charged to the card on file 7 days before your session date. For bookings made within 7 days of the session, the full amount may be charged at the time of booking or on acceptance, at Studio on Brunswick's discretion.
It is the Hirer's responsibility to ensure the card on file has sufficient funds at the time of the balance charge.
3. Refundable bond
A $100 refundable bond applies to first-time hirers. The bond is collected at the time of booking alongside the deposit.
The bond is refunded within 5 business days of your session, provided the studio is returned in good order, all equipment is in place, and no damage or excess cleaning is required.
The bond may be applied (in whole or in part) to costs arising from: damage to the studio or its contents, missing items, excess rubbish removal, cleaning beyond the standard hirer clean-up, or breach of these Terms.
Returning hirers and Studio on Brunswick Inner Circle members do not pay a bond.
4. Cancellation policy
Cancellation by the Hirer
- More than 21 days before the session: any amount paid beyond the 50% deposit may be refunded. The 50% deposit remains non-refundable.
- Within 21 days of the session: generally non-refundable. Studio on Brunswick may, at its sole discretion, offer one reschedule subject to availability.
- Within 7 days of the session: not refundable. Any reschedule is at Studio on Brunswick's discretion and is not guaranteed.
- No-show: the full booking fee is non-refundable.
All cancellation and reschedule requests must be submitted in writing to adminsb@studioonbrunswick.com.au prior to the session.
Cancellation by Studio on Brunswick
In the unlikely event that Studio on Brunswick must cancel a confirmed booking, the Hirer will be offered the earliest available reschedule date or a full refund of all amounts paid, including the deposit and bond. No further liability is accepted.
5. House rules
By booking the studio, the Hirer agrees to the following:
- Setup and pack-down are included within the booked time. The Hirer is responsible for resetting furniture and the room to its original configuration before leaving.
- Basic clean-up: the Hirer must wash and dry all dishes and utensils used, take rubbish to the provided bins/bags, wipe down spills and surfaces, and remove all personal items, materials and decorations.
- No open flames of any kind, including candles, incense, fire effects or smoke-producing items.
- No high-toxic fumes, including strong solvent-based turpentine or similar chemicals.
- No wall damage: decorations may be attached only with white tack or studio-approved methods. No pins, nails, screws or adhesives that damage surfaces.
- No children's workshops unless expressly approved in writing by Studio on Brunswick prior to the session.
- Alcohol: may only be served after a short induction with the studio director and explicit written approval. BYO alcohol is permitted for approved bookings.
- Noise: music is welcome at a respectful volume. Sessions must conclude by 10pm.
- Capacity: the maximum capacity is 16 persons. Exceeding this limit is not permitted.
- Studio office: the studio office area at the front of the building is not included in the hire and must not be accessed or used.
- Induction: first-time hirers are required to complete a short induction with the studio director before or at the time of the first booking.
6. Liability and insurance
The Hirer hires the studio at their own risk. Studio on Brunswick does not accept liability for any injury, loss or damage suffered by the Hirer, their guests, or third parties during the hire period, except to the extent required by Australian Consumer Law.
The Hirer is not covered by Studio on Brunswick's insurance. Hirers running paid workshops, classes or events are strongly encouraged to hold their own professional indemnity and public liability insurance for the duration of their session.
The Hirer is liable for any damage caused to the studio, its fittings, furniture or equipment during the hire period, beyond normal wear and tear.
7. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Queensland, Australia. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Queensland, without limiting any rights you have under Australian Consumer Law.
